Beauty and Hope

Here is a stunning example of how sacred art can transport mind and heart from the midst of world cares into the Kingdom which is coming. Reminds me of a Russian woman I met at an Orthodox Church who said, “In the midst of the ugliness of Soviet life, the Church gave us a great gift: beauty. When we left the Liturgy with its color and sound and smell, we again had hope. So we peasants would say, don’t tell us money spent on church beauty is stealing from the poor. No, it enriches the poor with hope that beauty still exists and God has not left us alone.”
