Obeying in the Night

A priest said the other day, “Satan hates trust in God, which is why the prime sign of his infernal malice is fear and mistrust. When you feel the darkness come over you, and all your feelings conspire against faith, then at that precise moment make your act of trust in God.”

Made me think of  the line from C.S. Lewis’ The Screwtape Letters (a series of letters from a senior Demon Screwtape to his nephew Wormwood) in which Screwtape says to Wormwood,

Do not be deceived, Wormwood. Our cause is never more in danger than when a human, no longer desiring, but still intending, to do our Enemy’s will, looks round upon a universe from which every trace of Him seems to have vanished, and asks why he has been forsaken, and still obeys.

Our hot water heater just went out and I chose to say “praise The Lord anyhow!” Made me think of this blog. 🙂
