Natus ex Maria Virgine

For the feast of the Nativity of our Lord, I will share with you the words of Virgin Mary as they are found in an Orthodox Christmas hymn. I put the words below. It’s a haunting reflection on the deep paradoxes that intersect in the heart of Mary as she wonders over the mystery of her newborn infant. It’s really an extension of her words to the Angel: “How can this be?” Click here for the audio page, and know that as soon as the song is over it transitions into another.

O my child, child of sweetness, How is it that I hold Thee? — Almighty

And how that I feed Thee? — Who givest bread to all

How is it that I swaddle Thee? — Who with the clouds encompasse the whole earth
